Each petal starts pale gold at the base and deepens to rich scarlet at the tip, producing a fiery gradient that stops people mid-step in the garden. Introduced in 2000 by English hybridizer T.E. McClelland and awarded the RHS Award of Garden Merit, it has earned its place as both a cut flower standout and a show-bench contender.

How to Grow It

Plant tubers in full sun after the last frost in fertile, well-drained soil. Pinch the central growing tip early to promote branching and a higher bloom count. Water consistently and switch to a low-nitrogen, high-potash fertiliser once buds appear. Deadhead spent flowers regularly to keep blooms coming from midsummer through the first frosts. Lift tubers in autumn before hard frost and store in a cool, dry, frost-free location for replanting the following spring.
