Magenta blooms arrive in perfect spheres, petal after incurved petal folded tight enough to hold their shape through August rain. A sport of the original Jomanda, it carries that lineage forward with cleaner color and steadier stems. British cut-flower growers have kept it in rotation for two decades, and the reason becomes obvious the first time you cut an armload. It was bred in United Kingdom by D. Houghton in 2002.

Growing Mary's Jomanda

Pinch when plants reach knee height to multiply the flower count later in the season. Stake early since the heavy, dense heads will lean over in wind once they hit full size. Cut when blooms are three-quarters open because they will not unfurl further after harvest. Weather resistance is above average, but a long stretch of cold autumn rain can spoil fully open heads, so harvest ahead of it.
