Mingus Phillip Sr produces giant blooms in a soft blend of cream, pale yellow, and pink that lighten toward the petal tips. The loosely arranged petals give each flower an open character that reads beautifully in the garden. Philip Mingus of Oregon bred the Mingus family of dahlias, and this variety has remained a grower favorite for its size and gentle coloring over many seasons. It was bred in United States by Philip Mingus in 1995.

Growing Mingus Phillip Sr

Plant tubers after the last frost date when soil has warmed, with the eye facing up a hand's depth below the surface. Stake at planting time, as the large blooms will need support before they reach full size. Pinch the center shoot above the third set of leaves to encourage multiple branching stems. Water deeply and consistently at the base, and feed with a low-nitrogen fertilizer once buds begin to form.

Spacing
Space roughly 2–3 ft apart
