Informal Decorative · 6–8"PinkNetherlands

Late summer borders fill with oversized blooms carrying cream petals streaked and flecked in shades of pink and magenta, each flower reading like a one-of-a-kind watercolor. The twisted petals give movement and an informal energy absent from the classic original. A conversation piece that bridges cottage-garden warmth with modern, painterly drama.

Growing Cafe au Lait Twist

Pinch out the central growing tip when shoots reach about knee height to encourage branching and more blooms. Stake early, as the large flower heads can weigh stems down in wind. Water consistently through summer and feed every two weeks with a low-nitrogen fertilizer once buds form. Lift tubers after the first frost and store them frost-free over winter.

Spacing
Space roughly 2–3 ft apart
Staking
Stake early — stems carry heavy blooms and lean in wind
