Crazy Legs is a novelty double dahlia that opens 3–4" blooms in orange. Orange petals rolled like quills flash fuchsia red on the backside, so every bloom reads two colors depending on how light lands. Nicholas Gitts introduced it through Swan Island in 1990, and the wild bicolor quills have kept it in cutting patches ever since. It was bred in United States by Nicholas Gitts in 1990.

Growing Crazy Legs

Pinch the growing tip out once your seedling reaches roughly knee height, and you will get a fuller habit with more flowering branches. Stake early since the tall stems can sag under the bloom load late in the season. Watch the back of each petal for the red color to pop before you cut, because that is when the contrast is sharpest.

Spacing
Space roughly 2–3 ft apart
Staking
Stake early — stems carry heavy blooms and lean in wind
