Growing Sir Alf Ramsey

Plant in full sun with fertile, well-drained soil after frost danger has passed. Stake early while stems are still manageable, as mature plants carry very heavy blooms. Pinch the central shoot when plants reach knee height to encourage branching and more stems per plant. Water deeply but infrequently to avoid crown rot, and feed with a low-nitrogen, high-potash fertilizer from midsummer onward. Cut spent blooms regularly to extend flowering into autumn.
