Semi-Cactus ยท 6โ€“8"Pink1974

Aljo is a semi-cactus dahlia that opens 6โ€“8" blooms in pink. Late summer rows glow warmest where Aljo blooms, coral pink shading into salmon over dark, almost black stems. Each petal folds back on itself and carries a dusting of yellow near the base, so the color shifts as the light moves. It was first introduced in 1974.

Growing Aljo

Give Aljo a tall, sturdy stake at planting time, because it grows head high and carries substantial blooms on long stems. Pinch the young center shoot to encourage branching, and disbud the side buds when you want the longest cutting stems. Water deeply at the base once growth takes off, then cut often; every harvest pushes a fresh flush until frost.

Spacing
Space about 3 ft apart
Staking
Stake early โ€” stems carry heavy blooms and lean in wind
