Big Brother is an informal decorative dahlia that opens 8–10" blooms in yellow. Big Brother is a sprawling Dutch giant that opens enormous ruffled blooms in warm butterscotch gold, with faint streaks of rose and apricot running through its loose, relaxed petals. Tall plants carry a handful of very large flowers that soften toward amber as they age, giving a rich, late-summer glow. It also holds its form on the show bench.

Growing Big Brother

Stake early and tie in often because tall sprawling plants flop under the weight of oversized blooms. Pinch at four to five leaf pairs to build side shoots. Disbud side buds so terminal flowers reach full dinnerplate size. Water deeply at the base and feed a balanced fertilizer through bud set. Watch for earwigs hiding in the loose petals.
