Semi-Cactus · 6–7"OrangeDavid Jack (Ferncliff Gardens)Canada

Ferncliff Fuego is a semi-cactus dahlia that opens 6–7" blooms in orange. A Ferncliff Gardens selection from Mission, British Columbia, Fuego opens lighter than its buds hint, then deepens into blazing orange with yellow flame markings licking up each twisted petal. The color clarity is what sets it apart: no muddy tones, no fading in heat, just sharp contrast that reads from across the garden. It comes from David Jack (Ferncliff Gardens) in Canada.

Growing Ferncliff Fuego

Stake Fuego early because the bushy plants carry heavy heads on long stems. Pinch the central shoot once it has four sets of leaves to push more cutting stems. Water deeply at the base twice a week and feed with a low-nitrogen bloom formula from July onward. Disbud side buds if you want the largest blooms, or leave them for a looser spray. Cut in the cool of morning when petals are nearly fully open, since these do not continue opening after harvest.
