Reach into the cutting garden and you'll find Karma Fuchsiana blazing in the summer row with its layered, water-lily-shaped blooms of intense fuchsia-pink that warm to coral and glow orange toward the center. Where many pink dahlias fade or blur, this one holds its iridescent color from first open bud through a long picking window. A Dutch-bred workhorse of the commercial cut-flower industry, it earns its keep with remarkably sturdy stems and prolific production from midsummer to frost. It was bred in Netherlands by Konst Dahlia BV in 1989.

Growing Karma Fuchsiana

Pinch the main shoot when it reaches four to six leaf pairs to build a branching plant with more stems for cutting. Water consistently through the growing season, keeping soil evenly moist once buds form. Feed every three to four weeks with a low-nitrogen fertilizer to support continuous bloom without pushing excessive foliage. Lift tubers after the first killing frost and store in a cool, dry spot through winter.
