After Dusk was bred in Netherlands by P.J.M. van Schie in 2015. Twilight seems to settle early wherever After Dusk blooms, each flower a pool of ruby shadow above dark green foliage. The color runs so deep it reads almost black until low sun catches the petals and sets a wine-red glow moving through them. After Dusk is a waterlily dahlia that opens 4" blooms in red.

Growing After Dusk

Stake early, because these stems climb well above waist height and carry their blooms high on long cutting stems. Give them full sun and steady water once buds form, and pinch the young shoots to build a bushier frame. Deadhead often to keep the dark blooms coming until frost, and lift the tubers for winter storage where the ground freezes.

Spacing
Space roughly 2–3 ft apart
Staking
Stake early β€” stems carry heavy blooms and lean in wind
