Growing Lilac Time

Stake early, before heavy heads break a stem in August wind. Pinch the growing tip at the fourth leaf pair to multiply side shoots and keep new buds forming through frost. Watch for powdery mildew on lower leaves since the Thomas Edison line tends to hold humidity in its foliage. Feed with a bloom-booster fertilizer once buds set, and you will see a steadier cadence of flowers instead of one big flush.
