Growing Penhill Autumn Shade

Plant tubers in full sun after frost danger has passed, setting them just below the soil surface with good drainage. Pinch at four to six leaf nodes to encourage branching and raise your stem count before midsummer. Stake early since the large heads catch wind and can snap unpinched stems. Feed with a low-nitrogen fertilizer at first bud to keep petal color rich through the season. Water deeply at the root zone twice a week rather than shallow daily watering, and deadhead spent blooms promptly to keep new buds coming until frost.
