Coltness Gem is a single dahlia that opens 3–4" blooms in red. Coltness Gem is one of the earliest dahlias bred for bedding use, introduced in 1922 and grown in gardens ever since. Its open-faced scarlet blooms, each centred with a bright yellow eye, appear on compact, bushy plants from midsummer right through to frost. It was first introduced in 1922.

Growing Coltness Gem

Plant tubers in a warm, sunny spot with free-draining soil after the last frost date has passed. Pinch out growing tips early to encourage a bushier habit and more blooms. Water consistently during dry spells, but avoid waterlogging. Lift and store tubers in frost-prone areas once foliage blackens in autumn.
