Informal Decorative · 8–10"RedHarvey Koop (2010)United States

Harvey Koop was bred in United States by Harvey Koop in 2010. Harvey Koop is a sport of Spartacus, carrying the same deep wine-red base but streaked and speckled with coppery gold that reads like fire running through the petals. The genetics are unstable, so the same plant can throw variegated blooms one week and solid red the next. It also holds its form on the show bench.

Growing Harvey Koop

Stake your plant early and well. Harvey Koop inherits its parent's height and flower weight, and a thin stake will not hold it. Pinch the central stem at knee height to encourage multiple laterals and a heavier bloom count. Do not be surprised if some of your blooms come in solid red instead of variegated. The genetics swing from stem to stem on the same crown. Feed low-nitrogen once buds form to deepen color. Deadhead consistently to keep your plant producing through first frost.
