Arabian Night
The near-black heirloom that has outlasted every trend.
Arabian Night arrives in deepest burgundy-red, so dark the petals absorb light like velvet. Bred in the Netherlands in 1951, it has been the dark palette collector's first choice for decades. Grow it and you become the person whose garden everyone asks about.

How to Grow It
Plant tubers in full sun after your last frost date, setting them with the eyes facing up just below the surface. When shoots reach roughly knee height, pinch out the growing tip to encourage bushy branching and more blooms per plant. Water deeply and consistently, especially during hot spells, and keep the soil from drying out completely between waterings. Deadhead spent blooms regularly to keep new buds coming from summer right through the first frost. In colder climates, dig tubers after the foliage blackens, let them dry for a few days, and store in a cool frost-free spot over winter.
