Vassio Meggos is an informal decorative dahlia that opens 8–10" blooms in lavender. A lavender head the size of a saucer opens on a long arching stem, petals curling back with white lightning across the lilac. The sport parent Spartacus gave it the broad geometry; somewhere in the mutation it picked up the white brushwork that no catalog photo quite nails. It was bred in United States by Steve Meggos in 2005.

Growing Vassio Meggos

Stake early. These heads get heavy fast, and a late stake means a snapped stem after the first summer storm. Pinch at knee height to push side shoots, then disbud hard once buds set so each remaining flower fills out to full size. Plant somewhere with afternoon shade in hot climates; the lilac color can bleach under relentless sun.

Spacing
Space roughly 2–3 ft apart
Staking
Stake early — stems carry heavy blooms and lean in wind
