Growing Chimborazo

Plant tubers after the last frost in fertile, well-drained soil and full sun, spacing plants generously for airflow. Stems reach chest height, so a stake or corral of twine keeps the open flowers upright during summer storms. Pinch the central shoot at four leaf pairs to encourage branching, then deadhead regularly to keep the pollinator-friendly blooms coming from midsummer until first frost. In cold climates, lift tubers after frost blackens the foliage, dry briefly, and store in barely damp vermiculite until spring.
