Collarette · 4–5"WhiteBill McClaren (1987)United States

Alpen Cherub was bred in United States by Bill McClaren in 1987. Pure white ray petals spread in one flat ring around a bright sunshine-yellow disc, with a short inner collar of smaller florets bridging the two. The contrast between the clean white outer ring and the glowing center is what makes this one legible from a distance in a mixed planting. Alpen Cherub is a collarette dahlia that opens 4–5" blooms in white.

Growing Alpen Cherub

Pinch once after the first several leaf sets to build a branching frame before buds set. Stake early since the upright stems carry many blooms per plant. Cut in the cool of the morning when the outer ray petals have fully opened and the center disc is still fresh. Deadhead spent heads regularly to keep the flush going into fall.

Spacing
Space roughly 2–3 ft apart
Staking
Stake early — stems carry heavy blooms and lean in wind
