Vivid red outer ray petals surround a crisp white collar of inner florets, with a golden-yellow open center that draws pollinators in from across the row. The contrast between the saturated red and the clean white band is sharp at peak bloom and holds well into the day. Named after the Flathead region of northwestern Montana where Bill McClaren ran Alpen Gardens, this one carries the easy reliability that made the Alpen series a grower's standby. It comes from Bill McClaren in United States.

Growing Alpen Flathead

Stake early and pinch once when plants are six to eight inches tall to build a branching framework before buds form. Cut in the morning before the sun hits the open centers, and keep the bucket in shade while you work the row. Deadhead regularly to extend the flush through late summer into fall.

Spacing
Space roughly 2–3 ft apart
Staking
Stake early — stems carry heavy blooms and lean in wind
