Bred in France for the cut flower trade, Nuit d'Été pulls near-black at the center through blood-red outer petals to create a color no other dahlia can match. The architectural form adds tension to bouquets and borders alike. Grow it if you want your garden to stop people in their tracks.

How to Grow It
Plant tubers after your last frost date, in full sun with well-drained soil enriched with compost. Pinch the center shoot when the plant reaches about knee height to encourage more branching and longer stems. Water consistently once shoots appear, and deadhead spent blooms regularly to keep new buds coming from mid-summer through first frost. Lift tubers after the first frost, let them dry, and store them somewhere cool and frost-free for winter.
