Honey Dew opens lemon yellow and slowly warms to cantaloupe as summer deepens, sometimes picking up faint red flecks along the petal edges. The fully double blooms are neatly layered with flat, broad petals that recurve toward the stem, giving each flower a tidy, round profile that holds its shape well on the stem. Color shifts from flower to flower keep arrangements looking alive rather than uniform. It was bred in United States by Swan Island Dahlias in 1991.

Growing Honey Dew

Plant tubers in full sun once soil temperatures are reliably above 60 degrees. Pinch the central shoot at four leaf sets to encourage side branching and a longer harvest window. Water consistently at the base and avoid wetting the foliage to reduce mildew pressure late in the season. Stake at planting rather than waiting, as the stems can reach waist height and lean under the weight of multiple blooms.
