Growing Red Runner

Plant in full sun once soil reaches 60 F. Stake at planting time, as stems grow tall and need support before the first flowers open. Pinch the central shoot above the third leaf pair to trigger branching and maximize stem count. Water at the base on a regular schedule and apply a low-nitrogen fertiliser once buds appear. Cut stems early in the morning when blooms are about three-quarters open for the longest indoor life.

Spacing
Space roughly 2–3 ft apart
Staking
Stake early — stems carry heavy blooms and lean in wind
