Growing Bloomquist Star

Stake plants early in the season, as they reach chest height by midsummer and will topple without support. Pinch the central shoot when plants are six to eight inches tall to promote branching and a higher stem count. Watch for powdery mildew on lower foliage during warm, humid stretches and remove affected leaves promptly. You can disbud side buds to push size into the central bloom if you want exhibition-quality flowers.

Spacing
Space about 3 ft apart
Staking
Stake early — stems carry heavy blooms and lean in wind
