The stem everyone at the farmers market asks about.

Place one stem among pale blooms and every other flower disappears from view. Jowey Mirella opens as deep claret-red, pulling toward near-black at the core, with fringed petal tips that catch light in a way a perfectly smooth ball never could. That combination of depth, texture, and tireless production is why growers who discover it quietly plant more of it every single year.

How to Grow It
Plant your tubers after soil has warmed and all frost risk has passed, in a full-sun spot with well-drained soil. Pinch the central shoot when your plant reaches about knee height. This is the single most important step for encouraging the branching that drives heavy yields. Stake early, before the plant needs it, so roots are undisturbed. Deadhead consistently to keep blooms coming from midsummer through hard frost. The more you cut, the more your plant gives back.
