Jowey Gypsy is a formal decorative dahlia that opens 4–6" blooms in yellow. Creamy yellow petals brushed with lavender pink tips open wide on sturdy upright stems. The pink flush deepens as the flower matures, so one stem shifts tone across a week in the bucket and pairs with half a dozen color stories at once. It was bred in Belgium by Jozef Weyts in 2004.

Growing Jowey Gypsy

Pinch your center stem when plants reach about a foot tall to push side shoots and build your bud count. Stake early; the stems stand up on their own, but a stake keeps rows tidy through late summer storms. Cut often once the first blooms open, because your plants set more the more you pick. Watch the pink flush deepen in cooler weather and hold back on heavy nitrogen late in the season so the color stays clean.
